Thanks for your advice. I, too, would probably not have allowed sufficient time for a Pompeii experience. It is a bucket item for me.

Thanks, David. I have not been able to photograph the quarries as of yet and today is my last day and it's overcast and raining. Will try again in an hour.

I'm impressed that you made it to Favignana. It's not exactly on the mainstream tourist trail. Did you manage to make anything photographically-wise of the quarries? I've never really managed to unlock the potential. I've certainly been up to the fortress, even in mid-summer, but never really photographed it. You've done a very nice interpretation with the monochrome approach.

Don't be jealous. It has rained every day so far. Driving through Tuscany, even in the rain, is gorgeous, though. On our way in a few minutes to Positano.

Thanks, David. We are on our way to Ravello and Positano today. It has rained every day so far, but still beautiful, Tuscany especially.

Hey Les, I hope you have a great trip. I've driven the Amalfi coast road a few times, and while it is narrow at times, and the tour buses can be a bit, er, hazardous, I don't remember it being that terrifying. More slow. Then again I'm used to driving in Italy :-) And of course if you're driving you need to keep your eyes on the road (unless you're Italian...). Anyway, my recommendations would be Positano, and up from the coast, Ravello. Ravello is possibly better from the photographic point of view. And if you get a chance, when driving from Florence, stop at Monterigioni, and Siena. And if you take the SR2 road from Siena to Rome, you will pass through some of the most beautiful landscapes in Tuscany, even, just south of Buonconvento, that famous clump of cypress trees that you know are a hopeless cliché, but you can't help yourself from photographing.

Buon viaggio!
